Dear GHIMA Member,
I
would like to thank you for allowing me to serve as President for
the 2011-2012 year. It is a privilege and honor to have this
opportunity. If you attended the recent annual meeting in Atlanta, I
hope you found valuable information you could take back and apply in
your work setting or to your professional growth. I know I was able
to participate in some great sessions and enjoyed networking with
colleagues on issues challenging the health information management
field.
I have shared with several about how “exciting” the time is to be a
HIM professional. There are many changes in the healthcare industry
that impact the role of the health information manager in how data
is collected, analyzed, maintained and disseminated for operations
and services in our facilities or practices. I think we all agree
that the only thing constant about change is “change” itself.
Whether it is helping the transition toward electronic health record
and achieving meaningful use, identifying best means to manage the
RAC process, preparing for ICD-10 implementation, complying with
privacy and security with HIPAA legislation, as well as continual
strategies toward broadening health information exchange in the
deliverance of patient care. The opportunity is NOW to become change
agents and embrace the challenges presented before us to help move
our organizations forward.
The GHIMA Board has established goals and a strategic plan in four
major areas for the year. These initiatives include membership
engagement, education, association growth and sustainability, and
industry leadership. We will continue to assess and measure progress
made throughout the year and provide pertinent information to you
through various means of communication. Stay astute of the bimonthly
GHIMA Newsletter published and GHIMA announcements of upcoming
educational opportunities planned for the year. You will also have
opportunity to respond to polls and surveys distributed and receive
aggregate data in return, that could serve as a measure of
comparison to you.
In closing, I am enthusiastic for the upcoming year and hope to help
advance the HIM profession and promote professional and personal
development for you. I encourage you to be active with your regional
association and to keep your AHIMA membership profile current, since
this is data GHIMA uses to reach out to you. Thank you and wishes
for a fulfilling and successful year!
Sincerely,
Charlotte McCuen, MS, RHIA
