Purpose: A GHIMA Mentor will provide insight into career paths and
development for those individuals new in the profession and have indicated that
they would like assistance from a mentor.
Responsibilities of Mentor:
Must be a current member of AHIMA.
Provide input into career guidance and development to assigned
mentee.
Respect diversity and differences of mentee.
Provide emotional support and encouragement.
Encourage mentee to ask questions and seek information about the
profession.
Introduce mentee to other individuals in the profession for
networking purposes.
Responsibilities of Mentee:
Assume responsibility for establishing his/her own career and
committing to the development of the career.
Initiating the mentoring relationship.
Actively participate in the mentoring process (seeking out the
mentor and developing the relationship).
Responsibilities of GHIMA:
Provide the name and contact information of a mentor to
individuals in the HIM profession who are seeking mentoring
assistance.
